SPM #74: How To Know If You Have The Right Distributor

 Episode 74

How to know if you’ve chosen the right distributor

Choosing the right distributor when you’re starting a restaurant is a very important topic. There are so many to choose from that it can be tempting to just pick up the phone to ask around “what’s your price on xxx” and then go with whomever gives you the lowest price.

Sometimes, and by sometimes I mean always, that’s the wrong way to do it. It’s incredibly important to understand that just because they have the lowest price doesn’t mean it’s going to be the best fit for you and your business. When you choose a distributor, whether you like it or not, you’re choosing a partner for your business. They can be great, or things could go terribly wrong.

With so many things to consider, Joey from Colony Foods talks to me about what they look for in a partnering business and why they take a different approach.

Colony Foods is a New England  based distributor however you can certainly take some of the items we talk about to your current distributor and ask them if they are helping you not only reduce costs but grow your business.

What to Listen For:

  • How Colony Foods got started
  • Why they have a partner based philosophy
  • What to ask your distributor
  • Why saving money isn’t the only thing that matters
