Must Read: The Dip by Seth Godin

The Dip by Set Godin

The little book that teaches you when to quit (and when to stick)

Everyone usually thinks of the quote by Vince Lombardi “winners never quit and quitters never win” in this short book Seth Godin challenges that very idea. He (Seth) says that winners quit all the time, they just quit better!

Seth describes the difference between the Dip and the Cul De Sac. The dip as Seth describes is the low point in any business that begins after all the initial excitement.

On the other hand the Cul De Sac is similar to the dip but there is no end in sight. This is where successful people figure that out quickly and actually pivot or quit quickly. Are you climbing up a latter along the wrong wall? The cul de sac drains your energy and resources then in the end, fails anyway.

Key Take Aways:

  • Learn to figure out if your in the dip or a cul de sac
  • Quitting isn’t always a bad thing
  • Quitting early is sometimes the right decision for long term success
  • If your in a cul de sac you can pivot, you don’t have to just quit
  • The most successful people and organizations quit or pivot all the time

I highly recommend checking out this great book by Seth Godin. It’s a quick read and worth the time you’ll invest . Hey, you might even be able to figure out if you’re just in the dip or if it’s time to quit or pivot.
